1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book! It's a waste of money, 31 Jul 2000
By sales@churchfurniture.co.uk (Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
Roger Siminoff may make fantastic guitars but he does not make a good teacher. Making a guitar involes knowledge of skills and a knowledge of the mechanics of the instrument. This book glosses over both. While it goes into elaborate detail about finishes his explanation of scale length is nothing less than irritating . If you think that making your own guitar would be a challenge, it is, but trying to follow this book makes it hard work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative book, 22 Jan 2005
A spiral bound book complete with pull out plans and plenty of practical information. This was my second guitar project, the first was a fretless bass(precision type).

I followed the construction methods using a solid piece of sycamore from luthiers supplies but did alter the shape to more of a Les Paul size(fixed bridge)I also carved the top with a small violin plane, and used a router for the truss rod channel, the guitar was finished in a 2 tone sunburst using the methods shown in the book.I made this first guitar about 9 years ago using this book it has since been used as a guide to help" A level" students make guitars for their projects.Being spiral bound it was so convenient to use on the work bench. My only criticism being not enough photographs of the finished guitar, other than that a cracking book.
