5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful, emotive, tragic. Outstanding., 18 May 1999
By A Customer
Truly one of the best novels written for the Dragonlance saga. From his beginnings as a humble Crown Knight fighting for a grip on his place in the world in light of his weak bloodline, Huma Dragonbane struggles to live the ideals of the Solamnic Knighthood. His friendship with Magius, cynical wizard of shifting alliances, and Kaz, a minotaur hounded by prejudice, conspire to bring him down in the eyes of the Knights, but his honour and faith mark him the champion of the Gods of Good themselves. With their gift of the legendary dragonlances, he must battle Takhisis herself to prevent the world from sliding into darkness.

This is heroic fantasy at its absolute best. The story is amazingly told, with an easy flowing narrative which captures the atmosphere of the world perfectly. An absolute must for Dragonlance fans, although it remains one of the few books in the series which can be picked up by a complete newcomer without losing anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 13 May 2006
By Marinos Tsimaris "Shirrack Dracko" (Guildford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a huge fan of DragonLance since 1995 when i first read the chronicle series, i mostly read DragonLance books but they are not always satisfactory. This one to my opinion is an excellent book; for although i knew the story of how Huma became a legend, more or less, it was still very thrilling reading it. Once i picked it up i could not put it down and basically finished it in a day.

I understand that some people dont like the idea of Huma being a lowly knight of Solamnia in the ranks of the order of the Crown, but why should heroes be some high ranking super people. Thats what makes them heroes, because they confront their fears and weaknesses. After all they are human and in this case despite Huma was not the best of the knights in rank or skill, his belief to the teachings of his God and having a pure heart was what made him the choosen of Paladine. By the end of the book (and his journey)though he has earned enough expirience to be up there with the best of them while also improving his commanding skill and decision making. If it was anyone else the ending would have been different with all the complications which that would mean.

I Loved the character Kaz as well, the villain Galan Dracos was interesting as well and right at the end we also meet a famous Dragon which plays an important part in the history of Krynn.

Overall i loved this book and i would recommend it to any DragonLance fan or otherwise.
