From the Author
Putting is hard: Here's how to make it easier.
As the editor of GOLF MAGAZINE for the past 14 years, it's never ceased to amaze me that the part of golf that should be the easiest--putting--is, in fact, one of the most difficult. Anyone who has played miniature golf or rolled a few putts on the living room rug thinks, "Hey, what's the big deal?" But anyone who has played the real game even once is sure to say, "It isn't as easy as it looks." Boy, is that the truth! When you're on a real green, trying to roll the ball into that little hole, when it counts for a score, things get a whole lot harder. That's why I've tried to compile the best ideas, methods, and practice drills to help everyone improve his or her putting. You'll find descriptions of the fundamentals--grip, stance, stroke, and so on--as well as many drills to help you master all of putting's intricacies: Green-reading, slippery downhillers, long putts, big breakers, two-tiered greens, even knee-knockers. You name it, I've covered it, in many cases borrowing suggestions from the game's great teachers. And I've tried to tell it all in simple, easy-to-follow language, illustrated with lots of photographs and illustrations. So if you've ever missed a putt (and who hasn't?) I think this book can help you.
