3.0 out of 5 stars Oh what could have been, 26 Sep 2008

This review is from: Players of Gor (Paperback)
I was considering giving this book 4 stars as the start is fantastic, great descriptions of Port Kar's carnival and the attempt on Tarl's life is exciting, his meeting with the Carnival troupe is well described too and funny.
There are some classic moments in this book an encounter with the Urt people (why have we never heard of these people 20 books in?!), Scormus of Ar returns from book 5, though John Norman missed an opportunity of mentioning how Tarl knew his mother and father from that time, good fighting scenes with a Kur however they are too many poor bits.

The carnival plays go on and on and on, literally you can skip 1/3 of this book and not worry about the plot being progressed at all, meaningless exchanges with slaves and about how free women all want to be slaves just does nothing to further the overarching plot of Priest Kings and Kurii.
The ending sets up book 21 nicely though. Anyway I'm on book 20 a few more to go then I'm done with Gor!
