4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to large format photography., 21 Feb 2001

I believe this book will be really useful if, like me, you have some experience in photography but are new to large format. It provides an excellent introduction to large format with good information on the range of camera movements and their effects. The book is well illustrated with both diagrams and high quality photographs although, unfortunately, all photographs are black and white.

Whilst many basic principles are explained the book quickly moves on to more technical details and previous experience is useful. There are many detailed charts relating to film characteristics, use of filters and exposure information but, being a Kodak publication, the specific film information is limited to Kodak products.

There is a reasonable introduction to film processing and the book comes right up to date with a closing chapter on digital imaging (both directly - with digital large format cameras - and by external film and flatbed scanners).

The book doesn't cover studio lighting (although it does cover metering) and it doesn't pretend to offer an in-depth analysis of any specific area of photography. But if you are tempted to venture down the large format road it certainly offers much valuable guidance.
