A great book. I had no idea if the Great Kreskin thought he was a bona fide phsycic, fortunately he doesn't. He says exactly what he is and what he does. This book is great not only for people wanting to find out "how it's done" but also if you wish to do it.
I certainly won't be telling any of the secrets the Great one tells in his book. I'd love to master the techniques he describes but I feel it's going to take some time.

Kreskin offers another book. He is by far the most well know mentalist in the field today. After a over thirty year carrer of appearing on the top television shows of our time and crisscrossing the country appearing at colleges, etc. Kreskin is truly a professional and expert in his field.

I think this book has potential at a number of different levels; some of which are fulfilled, others not. Firstly, as a book looking at debunking charlatans and other con artists it is a pretty good read. The guy has obviously been around a long time and seen quite a lot. More importantly, at least in my view of a good sceptic, he writes in an open minded style; happy to concede that he doesn't know it all but remains to be convinced by certain claims.

At another level this book works pretty well at being a self help guide. There are some useful tips on how to get on with other people and be more socially aware. He also adds in some stuff about motivation and goal setting, although of which reflect the up beat, highly positive attitude of many other American writers.

Lastly, you could see this book as a guide to magic. This for me is where it fails miserably. The tricks described in the book aren't that good and a sophisticated audience would easily see through the deceptions suggested. Perhaps this is a reflection of the times, were the magician's code of secrecy just does not exist any more.

My final thought is the way in which Ricky Gervais has corrupted the use of the term mentalist. Where ever I put the book down and people saw the cover, it invariably provoked laughter and jokes as people inquired why I needed to read a book about becoming a mentalist. A book that can provoke a smile in others is always worth a look!
