Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Producing Great Sound for Digital Video educates beginning and experienced filmmakers on the intricacies of creating an outstanding soundtrack, from pre-production planning through the final mix.

The entire book is fascinating and is packed with useful information and tips. The book presents solutions to show-stopping problems that, because of lack of experience, a filmmaker wouldn't realise until getting to the editing room. Other critical issues such as pre-production planning, the art of production and recording (including environmental factors and microphone setups), and post-production editing and effects are also discussed.

The advent of low-cost, high-quality video production equipment has ushered in the birth of AV producers and AV presenters who have grand intentions but negligible experience. Digital cameras, inexpensive computers capable of capturing and playing back high-quality digital video, and full-featured editing software offer all kinds of ways to create visual eye candy, but embryonic filmmakers don't always realise that the picture is only half the story. Producing Great Sound for Digital Video explains how the other half works, what to watch out for, and how to achieve professional results. --Mike Caputo

Product Description
To help readers create engaging soundtracks for video using any computer or software, this problem-solving guide examines the four key areas of audio production: technical principles; pre-production - the initial steps that guarantee a better track-designing, planning, scheduling, and budgeting; acquisition - the recording process both in studios and at indoor and outdoor locations, including basic room treatments, temporary acoustic fixes, voice-over sessions, and sound effects recording; post-production - everything from equipping the editing station for sound, to digitizing original content, synchronizing, manipulating, mixing, replacing the final sound on videotape, and more. This text features clear examples, step-by-step instructions, shortcuts, and expert tips and advice. The companion CD-ROM demonstrates how the techniques and processes discussed actually sound, and offers practical exercises.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 9 Oct 2003
My review is short. If you are an independant film maker using digital media and your sound sucks, then this is the book for you. Well, let me continue why.

The book starts with basic sound theory (which everyone needs, believe me) and works through to technical advice that works. It covers everything, from the space you record in via mike and cable to recoding devices and media.

Well illustrated and clearly written.

Sound is 'tres important'. Most aspiring film makers forget that people will forgive mistakes made visually, but never with your sound. Poor sound is hideous.

Make the investment in your future. Buy this book.

if your working on sound for your flash movies or creating your masterpiece in wavelab or struggling with the soundtrack output when you render in quicktime, whatever you're doing out there with your desktop that you haven't figured out you can find it here. this is one of the best guides on sound out there when you are hungry for technical facts, when your ear is not yet enough or when your ear is enough to frustrate you because you cannot figure out what is wrong with your music. there's not much out there to rival this book today, but hold your breath as desktop audio is making amassive move to the desktop
