A gem of spiritual wisdom and advice on psychic powers, 9 Aug 2002
You can never go wrong with a Kessinger book. They specialise in publishing rare esoteric books - the nature and quality of which are hard to find elsewhere. My only complaint, as I have with all the Kessinger books I have read, is that the quality of the textual print is, in places, so awful it's barely readable - too heavy and blotchy. It's only the odd line/para here and there but the general print quality throughout resembles that of a poor, over dark photocopy where the letters have no sharpness to them but appear more like the ink has bled badly. DON'T LET THAT DISSUADE YOU THOUGH!!!!!!!!!!! Kessinger books are in a league of their own and the rest of the print quality is good - the binding is perfectly fine and there is always a very large border around the text for note taking. Just a little time and patience and you'll decipher the difficult areas with ease and they really are few enough to bear with. This particular book was written in the 1920's primarily for "the members of a number of psychical and spiritualistic Societies in New York and vicinity". It covers an unbelievable wealth of advice/info on psychic matters including: The Spirit World, Auras, Telepathy, Clairvoyence, Dreams, Crystals, Trance, Prayer, Hauntings, Hypnotism, Fortune Telling, Reincarnation, Life after death, The Ethics of Spiritualism, Spirutal Healing.....the list goes on. The depth of spiritual wisdom and breadth of subject matter in the 358 pages is unlike any book I have so far read on the subject. It is a fabulous all rounder book on matters of psychic/spiritual matters and even offers actual exercises one can use to improve ones psychic ability. It's a book full both of wisdom and of practical advice on tangible ways of practising psychic skills. It's written in a beautiful style, very remenisent of 1920's New York and is never pushy like some books on the subject can be. It's a bold and confident work with some material that literally had me stopping in my tracks in wonder. I read one passage that described the process of death of the spirit leaving the body and going to the afterlife - based on near death experiences and communications received by clairvouyents. It also described what it is like to be a spirit in the early afterlife. It left me stunned. You have to read it for yourself to see what I mean and just giving a quote here wouldn't do the passage justice. It's also got a beautifully unique feel to it that is specific to classic works and is sadly very missing from some of today's tacky and cheap books. It's definitely a book for life and so very special. If you are new to such matters and simply looking for a good place to get an overview, or if you are well grounded in matters of the spiritual world, this book is for you. OK, Kessinger books aren't cheap but you will get far more than your money is worth!!!!!!! This is, like many of Kessinger's delicious books, one not for the coffee table or bad stand. It's not a regular paperback by any standards, but a book to cherish. It will easily enlighten those wise enough to spend the time plumming the depths of this gem. You won't be disappointed. IF YOU ORDER THIS BOOK, PLEASE TRY AND BEAR WITH THE BAD PRINT. IT CAN BE DECIPHERED EVEN AT IT'S WORST AND THOSE PLACES ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. IT'S A VERY SMALL GLITCH TO PUT UP WITH IN COMPARISON TO THE EXCELLENCE OF THIS WORK.
