2.0 out of 5 stars Life Skills for Kids, 30 Sep 2003
I opened this book with anticipation.
I had just read and put into action a similar book for adults (myself) so was particularly excited that I would be able to repeat this in a form more applicable to my young granddaughter.
However, I had not reckoned with this being such an American based book that it dwelt heavily on the ‘God’ philosophy
Most pages have some reference to actions being taken to the glory of God so as to enhance the child’s position in the family.
Not having the Christian faith I did find the advice rather dependent on knowing and understanding
quite a number of passages from the Bible, which made these pages utterly useless to me.
I did not find the instructions to gain life skills for children any more than the haphazard common sense that is used by parents and any organisational thinking that I had met in the adult version was entirely missing.
The preface shocks the reader when the author admits her eight-year-old, a skilled and avid reader was unable to dry the dishes! A neglected side of her development.
A realisation that resulted in this book being written.
