4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to world of show-dog handling, 3 Aug 2000
By c.wyatt@zoom.co.uk (Hampshire.UK) - See all my reviews
The writer gives up many of his secrets in preparing the showdog for the ring and handling the dog well while in the ring. His many tips on improving handling skills I found especially useful even though I am hardly a novice myself. George Alston comes across as very sympathetic carer and trainer of dogs and this reflected clearly in his writing. Much of his advise is sensible, uncomplicated and described in a way that will encourage all but the very faint-hearted handler to achieve more with their dogs. I thouroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars Alston is a must for the owner-handler!, 27 Jun 1999
By A Customer
If you're going to play with the Big Boys, you need the advice of one of the biggest. Reading this book drew a dividing line for me between an indifferent show record and a successful one. Every time I reread it I pick up more practical advice; and enter the ring with just that much more confidence. Chances are, the exhibitor just in front of you in the Group ring has read this book - can you afford not to?

1.0 out of 5 stars Interesting anecdotal book which is short on information, 26 Jun 1998
By A Customer
The authors state in the preface that this book is written for the advanced owner-handler. Other than some interesting anecdotes, I found a serious lack of information for advanced or intermediate, or beginning amateur handlers on the art of showing dogs. A better book on the basics [and more] of show dog ring handling and protocol is Carolyn Coile's book, "Show Me"
