Product Description

Product Description

This user–friendly reference is divided into two sections. The first section, "Signs of Diseases and Health Problems A–Z" lists symptoms alphabetically. To find the appropriate information, the reader doesn′t need to name the medical condition or system, only to describe the symptom. This first section is cross–referenced with the second part, "Treatment of Diseases and Health Problems A–Z," in which symptoms are associated with invaluable veterinary advice–causes, diagnoses, and appropriate treatment. Additional information on canine anatomy, first aid and advice on when to seek professional veterinary care is included.

From the Inside Flap

The A–Z of Dog Diseases and Health Problems is an essential reference for all dog owners, ranging from the specialised breeder with large kennels to the family who own just one dog. The aim of the book is to help dog owners to recognise the signs of illness, to identify the problem, and then to take the appropriate action. The first section of the book looks at health and husbandry, describing the signs of a healthy dog, feeding, grooming and exercise routines, plus extensive coverage of breeding dogs. The section concludes with when to call the veterinary surgeon and simple first aid measures. The second section is concerned with the Signs of Diseases and Health Problems, describing signs of ill health and the possible causes. This is cross–referenced to Section III — the Treatment of Diseases and Health Problems, This is a detailed A–Z listing of diseases and health problems, highlighting the signs, the causes and the treatment for each condition. Illustrated throughout with top–quality photographs, this is the first time a veterinary book has been made wholly accessible to the lay person, allowing every responsible owner to take the best possible care of their dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put a copy right next to your doggie first aid kit!, 24 Mar 1998
By A Customer
A-Z of Dog Diseases and Health Problems: Signs, Diagnoses, Causes, Treatment is an excellent resource for all dog owners. It provides helpful tips and answers to common problems, as well as signs which signal the need for a trip to the vet. Best of all, it's written in an easy to follow format and explained in terms that the average dog owner can comprehend - even when you're in a panic from Fluffy's incessant whining at 3:00am. In fact, the veterinary clinic where I work frequently uses it to help dog owners understand their pet's problem. I'd recommend keeping it right next to your doggie first aid kit!
