The Picts did not practise Wicca, or anything like Wicca. If you want Wicca, don't look for anything Scottish or Pictish, since Wicca is an English religion, created by a civil servant (Gerald Gardner) in the early 20th Century.

We have very little knowledge of the magical practices of the Picts, though it is assumed it would have been similar to other Insular Celts. I doubt Buckland would have done any serious research into this subject.

The Picts also would have worshipped many [seperate] Gods and Goddesses and spirits, like the rest of the Celts (not One Goddess, or a Dual deity like the Wiccans). The Gods would have been most likely similar to those of the Welsh, the Picts being a P-Cetlic speaking peoples. To attempt their magical practices, without any of their religious framework is nonsensical.

May he be damned for writing this rubbish about my ancestors!

1.0 out of 5 stars Whit a dunderheid!, 6 Mar 2005
A putrescent miasma of speculation, poor research and Fraud. The mess thet Buckland potrays as "Pectiwita" is basically a poor version of modern Wicca dressed up to con the gullible and the inexperienced. If you want to know about Scottish Paganism, look at Asatru, Celtic Reconstructionism and Scottish Folklore Traditions and Customs. You CAN practice Wicca and celebrate your Scottish/ Celtic heritage or affiliations, but none of us Scots were Wiccan till the 1940s. Sorry!

As for Buckland- Gonnae no dae that!

4.0 out of 5 stars Intresting Subject!, 28 Feb 1999
By A Customer
I found the info in this book riveting, i had been looking for some time for information on a scottish tradishen, most traditions seem to be english, irish or germanic. I found the non dogmatism in this traditian refreshing, compared to some of the traditions that have you collecting all these tools and writing/memerising manny ritchuals. I found it to be quite reasuring for being a biginner in the craft. Howerever i may have some bias becouse my family name is Pictish in origin, and i wanted to "go back to my roots" sorta speak. On the other hand what about the Scott's Religose beleaf?
