Product Description

Product Description

This book deals with the discovery of an ancient and secret system of workable magic, which, if we can learn to use it as did the native Polynesians and North Africans, bids fair to change the world. The Huna ("secret")science used by the Polynesians for healing, controlling of winds and weather, and other "miracles" was strictly prohibited to outsiders until Max Freedom Long arrived in 1917. I arrived in Hawaii in 1917, and took a teaching position that placed me near the volcano, Kileauea, which was very active at the time. The school was one of three rooms and stood in a lonely valley between a great sugar plantation and a ranch. The two teachers under me were both Hawaiian, and it was only natural that I soon began to know more about their Hawaiian friends. From there I began to hear guarded references to native magicians, the kahunas, or Keepers of the Secret. With background in psychology, my curiosity became aroused and I began to ask questions. To my surprise I found that questions were not welcomed. MAX FREEDOM LONG

About the Author

This was the beginning of Max Freedom Long s research into the Huna tradition of the ancient Polynesians. The field of his study was Hawaii, geographically the most isolated part of Polynesia. It was a virgin field because, in spite of the powers of kahunas, anthropologists discarded their work as superstition and missionaries disapproved of their miracles. His work not only resulted in THE SECRET SCIENCE BEHIND MIRACLES, a study of the Huna Tradition, but also provided personal guidelines for self-improvement and exposed correlations between the Huna faith and religions of today as he further explained in THE SECRET SCIENCE AT WORK and THE HUNA CODE IN RELIGIONS.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not religion, magic and it's fascinating, 7 Mar 2004

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
I have read this book twice and two others by MFL afterwards, This is the best book of the three and it is an extraordinary book.

Across *decades* and with enormous dedication MFL decoded the vast majority of a system of magic that he found, just as it was dying out, in Hawiai. The method he used was fascinating, is totally credible and is, in fact, reproduceable by you today, if you have the patience. He describes the process and the events leading up to his discovery and they absolutely ring true. What also adds to the credibility of the book is the old-world Amercan style of the writing of the author which has that delightful Mark Twain modesty, dry assessment and a touch of humour that will absolutely engage you as you read. By the end you feel like you know the man and if you have to pick a word for him it is "trustworthy".

The magic itself relies on the understanding of a secret psychology and of the component parts that comprise a complete human being. You have to read it, I won't mess up your fun by telling you about it but, take it from me, you are asked to believe things that you might find doubtful. At the same time, if you already know the important facts of spiritualism, mesmerism, hypnotism and other psychic phenomena and you are groping for an explnation for all of them, you find it here, and that makes it a lot more digestible.

It's thick book and if you are used to bullet points and colour pcitures it is a little daunting. If on the other hand you have an appetite to find out things that, if true, are of the utmost importance, and this book purports to tell you just that, then you will find yourself propelled through it, delighted as you go, actually wishing there was more in the end.

I have reviewed a lot of books and rarely given 5 stars. This one gets the full 5, easy. Go for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting and thought provoking, 29 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Having read literally hundreds of books on personal growth and psychology, I found this book brought many of the ideas together and gave a new angle. It is also amazing to discover that the so called primitive people were really advanced and may have discovered their garden of eden in polynesia and pacific only to be seduced by new world and materialism. However I found HUNA traditions very advanced both psychologicaly and spiritualy. This book is not for a beginner but would definitely help someone already on the path of self discovery.
