5.0 out of 5 stars excellent introduction, 13 Oct 1999
By A Customer
I am a complete novice when it comes to any form of martial arts and so you experienced fighters out there will have to excuse me if I appear ignorant, however I looked on amazon for a book of pressure points and chose this and have never looked back. It does not teach you every pressure point there is in fact barely scratches the surface of pressure points but if like me you have zero experience in this field and just want a taster, a simple easy to understand book that explains everything comprehensively and easily, you cant go wrong with this one. It explains the basic pressure points, different approaches and ways of striking these points, explains the effects and how serious a hard blow can be to the wrong person at the wrong time, the ultmate taster for pressure points, it is a small, cheap book which is not to complex, has sensible diagrams and doesn't cram every page with meaningless text. The book can be read quickly and left me with a taste for more, I have since bought several more advanced books on the subject and started to learn martial arts. However dont expect to be a master of all martial arts and pressure points just by reading this book, beginners only I would say, then if you like what you learn you can advance further, if not it doesn't exactly cost an arm and a leg and at least you haven't spent a lot of money on a more complex book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic information, but thats what we depend on!, 27 Jan 2003
By Mr. C. J. MacKenzie "www.laugar.org.uk" (London, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Bruce Tegner shows us in his usual style how to attack a number of basic soft targets.
If you are looking for pressure point striking techniques then this will only be a very basic guide.
However from a beginners perspective, this book gives a clear instruction in simple self defence strikes without all the technical chinese medical terminology.
All in all you get a fair amount of information for your money, although his thoughts on the amount of force to use do come across as a bit dated for our modern society.

3.0 out of 5 stars To high of expectations, 8 Mar 1999
By A Customer
I read this book and my reccomendation is that you lower the price because it is not worth even the little amount that is being payed at the moment. Other then the price I think this book has good instuctions on the nerve points but compared to The Encyclopedia of Dim-mak it rates only about a 3 star. Being a Jujitsu Sensei I think that the Atemi-Waza was not bad but needed some more definition. This is a good book to read but not much more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Uncolorful.
Nerve Centers and Pressure Points shows vague points, and focuses more on the utilitarian side of martials arts. Leaving out the actual art.
