Product Description

Book Description

Your fists are your primary weapon system in a streetfight, but most martial arts "masters" like to gloss over that fact. Now fisticuffs expert Ned Beaumont shows you how to duke it out in back alleys and smoky bars and walk away grinning (with all your teeth). All the dirty tricks of boxing are included, too. Not for the faint of heart, this one is destined to become a classic.

2.0 out of 5 stars A very average book with a catchy title, 4 Oct 2001
By A Customer
The book claims to be an academic treatise on boxing... The book could be written on the back of a postage stamp. The first few chapters ramble on about the superiority of boxing. In the middle, it gives manual type information on different punches and techniques obviously gleaned from general boxing sources. The applications for the street have not been thought through. The book ends with suggestions on how boxing is limited for the street suggesting that it needs to be combined with wrestling, judo and a range of dirty tactics. In acknowledgement of the book's limitations, the author provides an annotated bibliography of useful books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Biased propaganda, once again, that will limit your ability, 30 Mar 2003
Still biased with tunnel vision

A propaganda confidence boost for someone, who only wants to use boxing,

Repeatedly says "Boxings the best martial art in street fighting" & "Boxing is the baddest martial art around"

The Author keeps trying to Brain wash you.

Would you be worse if u used boxing & added 1 elbow to your arsenal?

When something is said so much you end up believing it.

States, only use boxing, disregarding other parts of the body, Elbows, Head, Knees, Eye Gouging, Biting, hair pulling and grappling to get you out of floor situations.

Them things are “basic” But they work and that’s what really counts!

Doesn’t mention conditioning your knuckles so you so you don’t brake them, just says hit the body, where you’ll brake your wrist planning to hit someone’s rib cage on there elbows.

You can learn a couple of techniques, some knowledge in applying street savvy. That’s about it, there are a lot more realistic books about.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, 7 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I thought that Mr. Beaumont did an excellent job on this book. I would recomend it to any boxing fan. However, I do not view boxing alone as a good means of self defense. While the fist, covered with gauze, tape, and 8 oz. gloves may be effective in the ring it is not in the street. The fist is made up of tiny, fragile bones, that break easily. I also noted that Mr. Beaumont has a hatred for eastern martial arts. That is really too bad, because most martial arts are a great compliment to boxing.
