5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the martial artist, 5 Aug 2000
By A Customer
Although much slimmer than the volume covering the main meridians, anyone with an interest in the martial arts should consider reading this volume first. It covers the two main meridians (Conceptor Vessel and Govenor Vessel)whose points follow the centre line of the body and contain some of the most effective points, and are used to devastating effect - not that I've actually experimented! Details of direction of strike, effects, set up points, antidotes and application are given. Healing applications are also covered although more detail would have been very useful.Perhaps further editions could give equal weight to healing? Erle Montaigue also includes his 'best strikes and points' apparently as taught to law enforcement officers. All in all a wealth of information that I would imagine most martial artists could incorporate into their own styles.

4.0 out of 5 stars At last a decent book on vital points for martial arts, 22 Oct 2003
By Richard Gillies (Redhill, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(...)

This book is a well written and researched, and is a must for a serious study on the bodies vital points, it's only downfall is that you really do need to buy volume 1 to get the most from it (...) These two encyclapedias togetherwith Tsubo: Vital Points of Oriental Therapy by Katsusuke Serizawa make a wonderful collection that give the martial artist a good understanding of how each point reacts to varying pressures, from healing and preserving life to causing immense pain and taking life.

One final thing that Earle points out throughout the book is how soft styles of striking are the most effective, from past experience I would agree with this point and to truley get the most from this book you should be training in these styles. If you train in hard styles you may find this book is of limited use.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a rip-off!, 14 Mar 2007
By Madge (Chelmsford) - See all my reviews
The first volume was REALLY expensive but chunky. This one is also REALLY expensive but 1/10th the size. Come on chaps! Its taking the michael! What troubled me the most was what sort of man teaches people death point striking! For what purpose? To go out and kill people? Taiji is meant to be peaceful and friendly not psycho training school!

1.0 out of 5 stars Curious but speculative
Erle may grab our interest with his wild dim-mak stories but there is very little in his books to suggest that these techniques work. Has he killed people? Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Encyclopedia of Dim Mak the extra meridians
Where the first book had 418 pages this volume has 127. Having said that this contains some of the more devastating strikes, ones which do more damage than just pain. Read more
