5.0 out of 5 stars Should be titled "How to kill someone FAST", 29 Dec 1998
By A Customer
When I joined the Marines, I was taught the LINE system. the hard way, I had more than a few bruises from being kicked, punched etc. This manual offers instruction in LINE (Linear Infighting Neural Override) training and is NOT a martial art system, which is valuable in a studio, fighting other martial artists. It is NOT a "self-defense" book. ie; "repel an attack, so I can get away to get help"... This book teaches you how to KILL. It tells you how to counter punches, kicks, chokes, headlocks, knife attacks, bayonet attacks.. It also covers how to fight with a knife, bayonet, how to remove a sentry (in various situations), how to fight multiple opponents, how to fight on the ground, and tactical weapons of opportunity....in each scenario, the opponent is KILLED FAST. It is very simple to learn, and can be learned safely with a partner (although I recommend finding someone who knows what they're doing to help you) FOR USE IN LIFE-OR-DEATH situations only. OORAH Semper fi (Note: LINE training has been discontinued by the USMC because it is "Too violent and brutal"... If it's too harsh for the Marines, You KNOW it's rough) The Close-combat system currently in use by the Marines is "Kill or get killed" by Col. Rex Applegate. also known as "BLOCK" training.

4.0 out of 5 stars The whole point of a book on combat techniques..., 2 Dec 2002
By A Customer
I have studied various combat systems both professionally and as a leisure pursuit over a period of 20 years. This book is designed to give techniques that work, that aren't too fancy and will get the job done. All too often, people become discouraged when a book does not show lots of spectacular and elaborate methods involving bizarre postures and flashy kicks. The point being, these simply don't work in the real world. The principal for any situation where a book of this type would offer guidance is to get in hard and fast, using simple but devastating methods to incapacitate the attacker, and to get out as quickly as possible. It's far better to have a handful of techniques at your disposal that actually work, than lots of ornate techniques that don't. Martial arts are a completely different subject to applied personal defence.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very basic, 7 Mar 2001
By A Customer
I was expecting quite a bit from this book. I did not get it. It is very basic, offering a few basic modified ninjutsu techniques, but basically this book is just a repeat of one fighting technique and finishing move.

In theory it could prove helpful, but there is nothing new you probably don't already know. The knife fighting is very rudimentry and again uses a simple block slash the throat method.
