Product Description

Book Description

As a bouncer in a biker bar and a participant in dozens of fights, Peyton Quinn knows the difference between fighting fact and fantasy. The result is a unique guide to self-defense that can save your ass in places where brawling is quick, dirty and very violent.

From the Author

The real problem in self defense isn't a matter of technique
When i wrote "Bouncer's Guide" my real motivation was to let decent people know how the ambusher, sucker puncher etc operates so they could spot and avoid these people. Since that time I have spent some years interviewing rapists, killers and others both in and out of America's prisons. I discovered they were all basically the same in their though patterns and modus operandi. That is, the bullies I dealt with in the bars , were the same as these convicts, they were just too successfull as bullies until they ended up in prison or on death row. ( a few bezerko exceptions) The results of that research and the self defense training method of adrenal stress conditioning through scenario based training which myself and others developed as a solution to the reality of dealing effectively with the real world assailant, was the subject of my second book, REAL FIGHTING : Adrenal Stress Conditioning Through Scenario Based Training. That book has sold so well it has apparently motivated readers to order my first book, BOUNCER"S GUIDE faster than my publisher can print it ( thanks people!). There is no real money in writing these books believe me. But I hope they might keep somebody alive who otherwise would not be, or prevent some woman the horror of forceable rape because they read them, absorbed their message and employed the experience and knowledge they offer. Your first best defense strategy is AVOIDANCE, and this is made possible only by AWARENESS. Peace be with you all, and confusion to your enemies! Peyton Quinn E-Mail: Quinnp1@aol.com

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected!, 16 Nov 2003
Having worked as a door steward around Glasgow since the tender age of eighteen, I've stood in the same position as the author many times. I am by no means condemning the content of the book (infact it's very clear the author does know his stuff and definately IS speaking from experience!) My "problem" with the book is that, in my opinion, it falls under the catagory of "Old School" stewarding. Gone are the days when you could strike first and ask questions later and these days (even if in strict self defense) if you were to raise your hands to a patron, you would almost definately lose your liscence (which you cannot work without) and probably spend a night in the cells! The use of "excessive force" is a big no no in modern day nightclubs and although, yes the content of this book may liberate the reader from one messy physical situation, it could also lead him directly into another long legal one!
Handy as a self defense or street safety companion, but for a "professional" doorman......look elsewhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, down to earth book., 2 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Don't be misled by the title---this book is first and foremost about surviving a bad situation by never letting it come to a physical confrontation. Quinn gives an excellent profile of what motivates attackers, allowing the reader to recognize them before they are physically attacked.

Also, he emphasizes again and again the importance of being aware of your surroundings. He debunks the idea that if you know the right techniques or are armed, that you are safe. Techniques and weapons won't save you from an attack you never saw coming.

3.0 out of 5 stars MISPLACED CATEGORY, 6 Jan 2006
By CRAZY GIRL (Brsitol, UK) - See all my reviews
This book is great, but not in terms of doorman's use of violence. I agree with another reviewer, doormen cannot be condoned for using violence against nightclub patrons, this book expresses a negative view of that. Perhaps retitled and put under a self-defense guise for the man in the street then it might have worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!
Predates the Geoff Thompson books and in my opinion is a hell of lot more useful.

Understand the psychology of fighting and best of all how to avoid conflict in the first place.
