3.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of info, but not all relevant for UK, 30 Nov 2002
By A Customer
While Joe Bucher is obviously a master lure fisherman, UK anglers should bear in mind that this book was written for the American market. As such the text is full of tips on how Joe has succeeded spectacularly in all manner of situations with walleye, bass and muskie - none of which are found in the UK. Pike are mentioned, but generally speaking, this book will mainly benefit only the more experienced UK pike angler, who will know what is and is not going to be worthwhile. In terms of how the book is written, the author's ego rampages through the text like a hungry muskie, and his own products are promoted with gusto. Not that he is alone among modern angling writers in either respect! My final gripe is that the publishers should have done justice to the photography - lots of really magnificent fish, all reproduced in poor quality black and white.

5.0 out of 5 stars Catch More Fish Have more Fun, 21 May 2001
This book is great for those who currently just cast out a lure and reel them in again, and don't catch so many fish in the process. Butcher is a professional angler and knows more about lures or plugs than I thought possible, though he does repeat himself and his successes a bit too often. The book breaks crankbaits, plugs in the UK, into different types and describes shapes, colours and actions in just enough detail. The other great thing about the book is it's explanations of techniques particularly around weeds and through weeds, this has helped me understand and have the confidence to cast where most fish are to be found and before where I would have had problems with snags. It's all about understanding the different crankbaits and techniques. It has made crankbait fishing addictive for me, but then again I am based in the Swedish fishing paradise of Nynäshamn so that helps! Lycka Till (Good Luck)

4.0 out of 5 stars the most comprehensive guide to crankbait fishing ever, 28 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This book is a must for lure anglers of all disciplines, in a systematic and ordered fashion the author covers all aspects of crankbait fishing.Divided into 22 chapters, topics include : colour, selection, appropriate tackle, fish location and a variety of other relevant topics all illustrated with excellent "on the water" black and white photographs. As an avid reader and practicioner of lure fishing I found the book offered plenty of practical as well as the usual theoretical advice. My only criticism is the sometimes blatant advertising of Mr Buchers products, found within the text. In conclusion however...a must read book for any lure enthusiast.
