OUTSTANDING!, 9 Jun 1998
By A Customer
Where does BACKUS come up with all this wisdom? This book helps the reader to identify the source and causes of their unpleasant emotions, and relationships. Then, he teaches the reader how to identify the lies s/he been believing, and by replacing them with the truth, the cause is changed, effectively changing the affect. (One ends up with more positive emotions, permanently!) This book also teaches the reader how to avoid being miserable in relationships, explaining how putting others under the law, The Gospel of Yourself, which operates over and above the "The Written expectations of the Gospel of Christ", (This book is written from a Christian religious perspective but is an excellent tool for ANYONE), is guaranteed to make you miserable. Backus goes on to explain how this attitute, putting others under the law which operates over and above the Gospel, makes others miserable too, and that, by not knowing that, you won't even understand why. This is a paraphrase of only ONE of the MULTITUDES of lies that people in the world believe, that keeps them in a perpetually miserable state. Would you like to stop being miserable? Then, please, get yourself this book. (Or you may invest in Truth Talk, also by Backus. It helps the reader dismember the lies s/he believes both in dealing with oneself, and in relationships.) This book in an absolutely excellent work. I feel it ought to be required reading for everyone.

A truly life-changing message: You CAN be happy!, 6 Feb 1998
By A Customer
I read the book in the german translation, the title being "The Truth Shall Set You Free", which is exactly what I experienced: Being set free from lies such as having to prove myself. Backus discusses a lot of lies I believe are responsible for Christians today having trouble to cope with their lives. So far, it's the best book I've read on the topic of dealing with oneself. Sound use of quotes from the Bible and modern psychological insight. Highly recommendable not only for counsellors, but for any Christian puzzled at his feelings. Easy to read, easy to apply to one's life, simply good stuff.

Learn how to LIVE with truth and still have peace!, 23 Jun 1998
By A Customer
I chose this book for a Ladie's Bible Study at our church because we had really lost a lot of energy and excitement in our Tuesday morning studies. The truth in this book has truly set many of our ladies free to honestly face what's in their lives and to still believe that God is in control. They are beginning to have the courage to face circumstances & people and realize that their value doesn't come from those things. William Backus and Marie Chapian have laid out a plan of action - identifying misbeliefs in your life, arguing against them and replacing them with the truth - that has breathed new life back into many ladies at our church. I haven't even been able to keep enough of them in stock because they have been giving them to their friends and family! The results have been tremendous - they are learning how to deal with real issues like intimidation, low self-esteem and wrong expectations and they are learning that God is FOR them!
