A superb book. Thebook itself is marvelous. It incorporates many things including pictures, diagrams, charts, culture notes, and many others that improve its overall effect. It contains many excercises to involve you the reader. All of which are answered completely in the back of the book. It also teaches you to read and write the three Japanese syllabaries (hiragana, katakana, and kanji) by slowly introducing them into the text. A great way for ANYONE to begin their mastery of the Japanese language.

As a native-speaking Japanese teacher, I use this book in my courses for beginners. It beings the students right to the point, into realistic situations they will encounter in Japan, without dithering too much with "This-is-a-pen". One of the few drawbacks is that the book, with its wide scope, may seem a little scattered and confusing for the more "structured" learner. But such is life; it doesn't all come in neat, bite-sized sushi! Another possible stumbling stone is the book's rather hasty approach to reading comprehension. My students find it hard to cope with exercises written in kana only from Lesson 1. But this can be overcome by careful classroom instruction. This is definitely my favourite Japanese textbook.

I highly recommend Japanese for Everyone. It is designed in a user-friendly manner and teaches vocabulary which will really help you whento communicating in Japanese. The fact that it introduces kanji gradually is also a big plus, being as you become more familiar with reading in Japanese.
