As a student of Tae Kwon Do, I was drawn to this book as a way to alter my style in case of any assault outside a controlled sport event. (ie, get mugged) I thought it would show me what techniques would translate to street fighting.

Unfortunately (and I admit this could be me getting the wrong end of the stick) the majority of tips I felt would only work in sparring, and not the critical environment of the real world.

Adam Gibson is no doubt highly skilled in TKD, and what he written about technique will no doubt help me improve my skill ... I'm just not sure "the street" plays by the rules.

So, in summary - an honest great book to help you in class, but it didn't fill the whole I had. I'm still glad i bought it though.

I am currently a student of TKD (ITF STYLE) although I have practiced other arts in the past.
I was looking aroung for a few books and then I came across this title.
First of all, you never "spar" in the street. You defend yourself to survive.
I am not totally convinced that you could take sparring strategies to the street.
Secondly, street defence is not point fighting.
I think the title needs changing, as its very misleading. If anyone wants books on street survival, read any of Geoff Thompsons writings.
