5.0 out of 5 stars Like annie proulx, with a bit of john irving., 3 Jun 2000
If you liked "The Shipping News" by E.Annie Proulx, you'll like this. Whalebone Island off the coast of Nova Scotia is the setting for a tiny-town revolution and a coming of age for a young boy. Neat prose, funny and poignant, reminiscent of John Irving in places. Touches of Magic Realism and a scaled down representation of Cold War Canada make this essential reading for any Canadianist, or anyone else for that matter! Buy it, you'll love it.

This is not a review, more of an opinion: This is one of the best books I've ever read. It's a wonderful story, get it, you'll love it.
