5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Informative, 23 Sep 2005
A great overview of the dive sites of the Great Barrier Reef. Very interesting historical background information, and plenty of superb photographs. The book also grades dive sites depending upon scuba diving experience and gives an overview of the type of fish and marine life you are likely to encounter. A summary at the back details what to avoid, from snakes to box jellyfish. A really useful reference with which to plan a diving holiday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting book but not what I was looking for., 9 Aug 2009
By Clara Tattoni (Italy) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The guide has a nice introductory part about facts of the Great Barrier Reef, corals and marine life. I appreciated a lot the chapter regarding diving and conservation awareness and the environmental conscious attitude throughout the book. Anyways, in a Lonely Planet guide I would have expected some reviews of the diving operators that could help me to choose the best one for me. Instead there is only a list of dive services in the very last pages and the guide is mainly a description of the main dive sites.
Well written and interesting, but not the book I was looking for.
