5.0 out of 5 stars Don't leave without it., 18 April 2003
By A Customer
I've been travelling around China for 6 months. It's hard to find English speakers in the cities and almost impossible at the countryside. This book has everthing I needed to get along in basic communication with the locals, plus nice written paragraphs to read during the long trips...
you won't learn how to speak Chinese with it and niether how to pronounce the words correctly (a major reason for this is that the dialect changes every 100km or so...), but it'll make your life a lot easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential AND a Bargain, 26 Mar 2004
By Ray (Netherlands) - See all my reviews
There are times when you will be confronted with blank looks in China. This phrase book can help dig you out of that hole, and for a bargain price too. Consider buying this packaged with the Traveltalk CD if you want to get more of a flavour of the language and pronunciation.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must!!!!, 9 Mar 2003
By Sun Wukong (Portugal) - See all my reviews
I'm at the moment in China... this book has been one of the best tools I could bring to survive here. It's like a Swiss Army Knife. Of course I think that you need to have some basis, expecially the correct way to pronounce the Pinyin. If is that your case you have here a very helpfull tool to travel in China. And to cope with most of the daily situations that you'll find.
