4.0 out of 5 stars What a book!, 9 April 2002
By A Customer
From the first moment I got my paws on this big, bold and stunningly photographed book it became a favourite in my collection. Recipes are rustically original producing great results of a homely (rather than fancy restaurant) nature. It has fabulous pullout sections too, concentrating on various aspects of French fare (check out the cakes! And cheese. And fish and wine and...) almost making it a coffee-table book and certainly a great reference book.

Most importantly for a cook book the recipes really work and there is a photo to accompany every one. For the most part they are fairly straight forward but having even achieved stunning results with the Pike Quenelles, certainly one of the more complicated ones, I think it's a great book for all levels of cook. If you enjoy cooking authentic French food buy this. Every classic dish is here. Oh and don't be fooled by the price tag - it really is astonishing value. I can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Great!, 13 Jan 2005
By Mr. C. C. Peart "thechef247" (London, England) - See all my reviews

The Food of France is easy to use.

I am at my final stage of doing a Professional Cookery course and I used it to do one of my final assessments. And yes, I passed with flying colours.

The book is great and shows step by step methods to prepare a great dish.

In a world where we tend to buy package foods, a book like this will make you think twice and enjoy cooking and enjoy the real taste of food and also know what you are eating.

It was worth the £19.99 I paid for it and I am glad I bought it when I had the chance.
(They are now hard to get sometimes)

It is a must for all and worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Food of France (It's just great), 26 Aug 2005

What can I say, but I have justed passed my Professional cookery course and the book was a great help.

It's a book anyone can use and the best thing is that you can learn a lot from it and use the methods in the book to improve or create new recipes.
