Product Description

Product Description

In this riveting and revealing autobiography, newspaper editor Abdel Bari Atwan recounts with humour and honesty his many extraordinary encounters, including tea with Margaret Thatcher, his weekend with Osama bin Laden, intimate meetings with Yasser Arafat, and the row between Colonel Gaddafi and the Shah of Iran that earned him his first journalistic break.

About the Author

Abdel Bari Atwan was born in Gaza in 1950 and grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp. He left aged seventeen, and has since become one of the world's foremost commentators on the Middle East, for the last twenty years editing the independent Arabic daily, London-based al-Quds al-Arabi. He is the author of the acclaimed The Secret History of al-Qa'ida (Saqi).

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly insightful, honest, heartfelt, and frequently hilarious, 16 April 2009
By J. Denning "Jemma Denning" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a peach of a chance to find out how an intelligent, articulate and not particularly vengeful Palestinian survived all the injustices and poverty his people's history endowed him with to become a well-known face in the Western media and a celebrity newspaper man in the Middle East (Atwan is the editor-in-chief of the only Arab independent paper, al-Quds al-Arabi). Truly insightful, honest, heartfelt, and frequently hilarious, everyone who cares about world peace should read this book...amazing anecdotes too - my fave about Yasser Arafat starring in Playboy!
