Product Description

Synopsis

Since the disaster in 1912, one area of the Titanic story has been overlooked. That place is Belfast, the city of her birth. This book details the events in Belfast from the time of Titanic's conception and laying of her keel to the time when Belfast and Ulster mourned the loss of loved ones on the ship's only voyage.

From the Author

Titanic Belfast's own finally puts Belfast on the map.
This book started over 6 years ago as a research project, Harland and Wolff allowed me access to their records, which had lain undisturbed since 1912. A great deal of research went into the local Ulster people who sailed on the ship and whose lives were touched by the disaster. This book finally puts Belfast on the map as far as the story of Titanic is concerned, by telling the story of how Titanic affected the people and also the outpouring of grief after the disaster. Many new photographs and documents are reproduced in this book, including Lord Pirrie's letter of document disposal and a new photograph of Thomas Andrews the designer of the Titanic.

Stephen has done lots of work to produce a great insight into the people of Belfast and all those who worked on the two great ships of that era, as well as giving us the details of those who died long before the disaster in the making of the famous sisters.Interesting to note the real maiden voyage of titanic, any one who has interest in Titanic should have this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT!, 18 Feb 1999
By A Customer
The book reveals many aspects of the building period and the stories of the Belfast people aboard. This is a MUST for any Titanic enthusiast. They are quite a few revelations about the ship, encluding Titanic's first paying passeneger. Anyone who saw the film, can now find out where Titanic came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awsome!, 11 Feb 1999
By A Customer
I live in the Unites States and had to wait 2 weeks for delivery of this book. Believe me it was worth the wait. Mr Cameron has wrote a touching account of the toll that Titanic took on the city of Balfast. He does not go into the disaster as much as he delves into the beginnings of Titanic and the cost of lives during construction. As well as paying tribute to the Belfast lives that were lost in the sinking. In particular Thomas Andrews, Titanic's Chief Designer. I must have book for any Titanic library.
