5.0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Resource Book, 21 Oct 2001
This is a little gem of a book. It is full of practical advice regarding all aspects of care, finance, support and resources for people with dementia and their carers. It explains the different types of dementia, the underlying physiological changes, sypmtoms, diagnosis and treatment, and presents it in a readable format. Mini 'case studies' pepper the text and let the reader 'stand in the shoes of' the dementia sufferer and their carers.

David Sutcliffe takes a positive, realistic and holistic approach and he never loses sight of the person behind the disease. He introduces practical ideas and techniques to meet their physical, psychological and emotional needs, as well as coping with 'problem behaviour' and safety issues. The needs of carers too are acknowledged, and he includes many useful addresses and sources of further information, training and support available. This book would be an invaluable resource for lay and professional carers and anyone interested in dementia care.
