5.0 out of 5 stars a great guide to Glasgow by foot, 29 Jul 2001
This book is perfect for anyone in Glasgow who likes walking. It's a great way for the tourist to see the sites, but even Glaswegians probably don't know the city as well as they think.

The book includes excellent details on 13 walks which cover wide sections of the city. Some routes are circular and some linear, and they are designed to pass Glasgow's interesting points, such as museums, parks, historical buildings, cemeteries, and of course the necessary pubs and restaurants. The author includes all the information you need for each walk: distance and terrain type, public transportation (train and underground stations) to and from the starting and finishing points, availability of refreshments, safety issues, and of course the main places of interest. Each walk has a chapter devoted to it, where the author gives full information on every leg of the walk and a little bit of history on each of the places of interest he recommends. The walks are detailed almost step-by-step: the author tells you which direction to go at each street and approximately how far you'll have to walk, so it's impossible to get lost.

There are a variety of lengths and locales available for the walks, so the book will be useful for walkers of all levels. Many of them are short enough that two could easily be completed in a day, while others are probably full-day excursions, especially if the route includes museums and other time-consuming visits.

There is also more good information at the end of the book. The author talks about several places worthy of notice that aren't included in the walks, and he includes a chapter on Glasgow's graveyards and another three on the city's architecture and architects.
