Product Description
Synopsis
This biography portrays the Young Pretender's struggle to rally the clans and restore a Stuart monarch to the British throne. How he nearly succeeded in changing the course of British history is told, as are the accounts of the 1745 Rising and the massacre at Culloden. Prince Charlie's subsequent adventures in France and Italy, until his eventual death in Rome over 40 years later, are also covered. Sir Fitzroy MacLean is the author of "Eastern Approaches".

5.0 out of 5 stars What you did not know about Bonnie Prince Charlie, 6 Sep 2004
Sir Fitzroy Maclean is an author with a huge amount of personal experience to hand which enabled him to write such an authorative account of the life of Bonnie Prince Charlie. The start is a wee bit tedious in the introduction to BPC's early life as a young man growing up within the Italian aristocracy. However, the reader is soon moved into those areas we are all familiar with about the life of the Prince and his association with the Scottish Highlands. Except we are not! There is so much more to Charles' escapades that seems to be missed by other writers, particularly his retreat from Derby and what happend after Cullodon. This book is full of adventure and intrigue, of doubt and personal endeavour. It displays a personality fault of the Prince hitherto perhaps unknown, a side that displays a personal pride, of indifference to his advisors and an inability to accept responsibility. Read on and enjoy because you will not put this book down until the last page is read.
