1.0 out of 5 stars Single parents - save your money, 3 May 2002

What a horrid, horrid book! The blurb states it is 'supportive, constructive and practical'. I found it full of unpleasant stereotypes and unsubstantiated statistics, badly written and patronising.

If you need to know that women in their 50's and 60's are unlikely to have dealt with their own finances and that your children are far more likely to take drugs (with no hint of what to do about this), then buy this book.

Alternatively, start budgeting for your new single-parent status now and don't waste any money on it.

Kinda makes you curious to see just what is so bad about it. Finally got hold of a copy and I found it an enjoyable read, more so than most books on the subject. Life post divorce is really hard going with no easy solutions so anything that can help is welcome. And it seems to have been meticulously researched though obviously, having been written in the 90s, facts and figures are of course no longer up to date. But these days, maybe the other title, How to Raise Confident Children is even more useful.
