Product Description

Book Description

For the first time ever, an illustrated popular history of the misrepresented netherworld that is Satanism. Macabre media/rock music expert Baddeley charts humanity's darkest faith, from its early perversion of Christian rituals, through the high society sinners of the naughty nineties, to the 'great beast' Aleister Crowley, and latterly, the Black Metal/Death Metal rock bands who have fuelled modern anxiety about the occult. Using exclusive candid interviews and sumptuous Satanic stills, Lucifer Rising reveals the beliefs, activities and individuals that lie behind the present-day media panic.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent and informative read for all Satanists., 18 Feb 2000
By A Customer
This was a superb book. I found it well structured and written. It featured interviews with all kinds of people,i.e. Kenneth Anger, Blanche Barton, Christos Beest, Glenn Danzig, Michael Moynihan, Boyd Rice, Kerry Bolton and many others. It looks at Satanism through the ages and in the 20th century; how it has become immersed into popular culture, via films, music and so forth. Anyone who is interested in Satanism or is curious to know what Satanism is all about, then it is highly recommended that you pick up a copy.

Baddeley has written an excellant, accessible history of Satanism that's refreshingly free of hysterical media stories and 'white lighter' garbage. Incisive, witty and honest it includes interviews with Anton Levay himself and 'modern' Satanists such as Glen Benton. Xtians will hate it's sane appraisal of Satanism, but the more open minded will find it interesting and well written.

Hail Satan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, 10 Jan 2004
"Irreverend" Gavin Baddeley is one of my favourite occult writers, and this is his best work to date. This book is infinitely re-readable - it is interesting, accurate, exremely comprehensive and witty. This is a no-holds-barred history of Satanism, with opinions given from all sides. A must-read for all who share an interest in the Devil and his followers!
