The Herald (Glasgow), June 1999

'For Ewan Idolators this book is undispensable.' The Herald (Glasgow), June 1999

Book Description

This in-depth biography charts this Scottish actor's phenomenal rise to stardom. His appearances in the three new Star Wars movies as the young Obi Wan Kebobi should see Ewan become one of the world's most famous actors. His screen career started with his first speaking role in Dennis Potter's TV series Lipstick On Your Collar. He then starred in Shallow Grave, and played anti-hero Renton in the screen adaptation of Irvine Welsh's cult book Trainspotting, which proved to be one of the most successful British movies of recent years. He followed this by playing a strikingly contrasting classical role in Jane Austen's Emma alongside Gwyneth Paltrow.

With his success in the UK he followed the natural path of progression to Hollywood; it was a guest appearance on ER that ensured his cross-Atlantic appeal. Since then he has starred with Nick Nolte and Patricia Arquette in the thriller Night Watch and with Cameron Diaz in the romantic comedy A Life Less Ordinary.

Aged 28, Ewan McGregor has become a regular heart-throb and pin-up (despite being happily married and the father of a young daughter). His popularity stems not only from his good looks but also his great talent as an actor, proved through his widely varying roles over the last five years.

McGregor craved nothing but acting from the age of nine. From humble beginnings in the country town of Creiff, he has become a major film star in Hollywood. He will maintain a presence over the next few years due to the Star Wars movie which is bound to create huge media interest.

Brian J. Robb specialises in writing biographies of the leading stars of his generation. He has written five previous books (all published by Plexus): River Phoenix: A Short Life, Johnny Depp: A Modern Rebel, Brad Pitt: The Rise To Stardom, Keanu Reeves: An Excellent Adventure and the bestselling Leonardo DiCaprio Album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent photos, Ewan-lushous!, 10 Aug 2001
By azindn (Arizona, USA) - See all my reviews
A book for collectors of books on Ewan. Nothing new in terms of information not published in other sources. The best aspect of this publication are the photographs on almost every other page, very clever studio sessions of a young and half clothed kilted kutie. While none of these books on McGregor are authorized by the actor, this is one to keep for the witty quotes by McGregor and the glossy portraits of a very young actor before he was filthy famous.
