3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Pictures..., 3 Jan 2000
By A Customer
This book is a reasonable history of MSP which casual fans may enjoy. A better book is Simon Price`s "Everything" for the massive fans. Aesthetically this book is superb with some nice (if not unseen) photographs and some impressive typefaces. The content is less impressive with Sean and James largely ignored and some dodgy "facts" The author doesn`t know his subject as well as Price, "Everything" offers an appendix with theories etc. This book does have a good discography which lasts until just after the "Everything Must Go" era. Manics fans will find out a few different things in "Sweet Venom" but this book is too brief. If you`re pondering which MSP related title to buy, then look Simon Price`s way....

3.0 out of 5 stars Relatively well-written but nothing ground-breaking, 6 April 1999
By A Customer
Although this book seems to contain the full pre-This Is My Truth.... history, I came away feeling that the author had been contracted to write a book about a band he knew nothing about. It seems that all the research done was collected from reading old interviews and other books, so it provides nothing new to people who have read the same material.

Also, the single most annoying thing about the book was the way the author stated what was good and what was bad, labelling everything before Gold Against The Soul as musically terrible, and stating which songs were the bset and worst as if it was obvious to everybody and there was no room for subjectivity. This gave a feeling of supieriority from the author, as if he was the deciding force who could decide whether a track is good or bad.

Despite this, there is more material and detail in this book than any other single Manics biography I have read, leaving a very full account of the band. There are also some very good pictures in the book, and it is very nice to have all this material ina handy package.

3.0 out of 5 stars So-so, 29 Aug 1999
By A Customer
I origionally meant to buy " Everything- a book about the Manic Street Preachers" but...I settled for this one instead. Myself, being a hardcore fan, was disappointed in the broadest sense. The back promised " unseen photos" many of which I had seen before, It focused on Nicky and Richey and ignored James and Sean. The book itself was detailed, but lacked the kick which makes you want to read on. A good effort, but I urge other fans to buy "Everything".

4.0 out of 5 stars A depictive view of the most exciting UK band in 20 years
The book offered an insight through the history of the band, but trivialised the dissapereance of Richey Edwards before the event even happened in the time line.

3.0 out of 5 stars Aptly titled, well worth reading but doesn't quite deliver.
Despite the fact that it's a bit of a cut and paste job, this book has a lot to offer any Manic Street Preachers fan. Read more
