It's not often easy to read a play. You need to hear the voices of the different characters, see the set, be in a darkened auditorium with lights on a stage in front of you. After all, a play is to be played, not to be read.

However, 'Live Bed Show' is just as good to read as it is to watch. The hilarious situations the two characters find themselves in, alongside the witty one liner's that seem to flow so easily from the playwright's pen give this play that 'something'.

The characters of Maria and Cash not only humour us but they remind us of ourselves. the usually innocent but slightly manipulative language a woman uses, and the seemingly strong men that fall for it (or not!).

There is definately an air of Bridget Jones in this. Or of Nick Hornby's work. It is gritty and sometime crude, but always with a surprisingly real sense of what being a 30 something is. I say surprising as we never are quite sure whether the characters are dreaming or not, however it always seems real.

I have seen this staged, and it works. But it also is just as good to read. Short and snappy. Laugh out loud humour and definately fun. This without a doubt is one of the best plays I have ever read.
