Product Description

Book Description

Employing his unique style of innocent and endearing humour, Bones has written to the newspapers The Surrey Star and The Middlesex Plain Dealer inviting the Foreign Secretary to pay a visit to the African territories which they administer. It is against the regulations and his boss Hamilton is furious. While world powers vie for colonial honours, Sanders and his assistants attempt to administer an uneasy peace in a climate of ju-ju and witch doctors, and all the while Bosambo, chief of the Ochori, watches closely. AUTHBIO: Edgar Wallace was a soldier, poet, war correspondent, reporter, author and playwright. He wrote more than 170 books, which have been translated into 28 languages and sales of which have exceeded 50 million copies. Over 160 films have been made from his books - more than any other author. He was working on the original screenplay for King Kong when he died. In the 1920s one of Wallace's many publishers claimed that a quarter of all books read in England were written by him. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

This review is from: Sanders (Paperback)
A wonderful opportunity to recall the magic of Edgar Wallace's stories of
Commissioner Sanders, Bosambo of the river and Captain Hamilton, not to speak of Lieut. 'Bones'. These stories, first read 70 years ago, stand the test of time and are still wonderfully evocative of the time, place and personalities charged with bringing the Pax Britannica to the remotest (then) corners of those areas then painted red in the early maps of Africa.
