Product Description

Product Description

The authors of this text assert that conquering work stress is actually no different from acquiring any other management skill: it just needs understanding and practice. The book examines: using simple questionnaires to assess stress levels and stress-inducing beliefs and ideas; differentiating between negative signs of stress and positive ones of pressure; changing your behaviour and habits - tips on time management, exercise, nutrition and relaxation methods; avoiding causing stress in others; and balancing home and work priorities to become an effective "life manager".

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource if you are suffering from stress., 31 Aug 2001
This little book is an excellent resource if you think you might be suffering from stress.

It contains several checklists to help you assess the stress in your life and has plenty of practical advice to help you deal with all forms of stress.

This is not an in-depth treatment of stress but is a useful, quick reference for anybody who feels that they need some advice on how to cope with life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stress Busting - A Blueprint For Tackling Health Issues & Social Problems, 16 Aug 2009
By Barad-Dur (Oxford, England) - See all my reviews
One of the "Management Shapers" series, this little gem of a book should be read by everyone - manager or not - BEFORE they ever set foot in the workplace - and read again periodically thereafter. The reason - it just might divert you from or mitigate potentially serious health problems, or even save your life. Or simply make you happier and a better employee. Better able to provide for yourself and your loved ones and dependents.

You wouldn't (or shouldn't) go on the roads, use dangerous objects, etc. without being aware of the risks and hazards involved, and have an inkling of how to anticipate and pre-empt them where applicable. Work-related stress, an occupational hazard present to a certain degree in just about every job, at every employer, needs tackling in a similar vein.

The book explains the "baddies" r.e. lifestyle for those not in the know, and outlines positive strategies for tackling the underlying stress and other related issues. Being fairly compact like other books in this series, it provides further references for more comprehensive treatment. It is presented in a very user-friendly, to-the-point manner (again, like other books in the series), with no endlessly-long chapters or sections. An excellent introduction to this unfashionable but vital-to-tackle problem in life.
