Product Description

Synopsis
In this guide to Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), the text covers: the essence of NLP and how it can work for you; using NLP to achieve what you really want; and how to build quality relationships and enhance your influence in the workplace.

From the Author
For a short sweet taste of NLP - try this
When I am in France my husband and I often shop in the wonderful food markets. As we walk around we can smell and sample the wonderful aromas and tastes of the produce. I wrote this book to give you a flavour of NLP. It can be used in its simplest form and it can be a complex very deep subject that can form the basis of all your learning. This book is designed to help you decide if you want to take it further. My other books NLP at Work and NLP Solutions are designed to help you understand the subject in greater depth. You choose. I hope that you find each or all enjoyable and of value both in your personal life and in your business world.

3.0 out of 5 stars If it got any more simple ..., 5 Mar 2002
By A Customer

This has got to be THE most cut down outline of NLP you'll ever find. Just 60 pages in large print, with nice wide spacing between lines. If it got any more simple it would be a book full of blank pages!

Now, if you thought that description means I didn't like the book then I apologise, because I've misled you. Actually I think this is the strongest of Ms Knight's three books ("Introducing NLP", "NLP at Work" and "NLP Solutions").
It provides a VERY basic and simplified description that is ALMOST entirely jargon-free (for some reason the author suddenly starts talking about "anchors" on page 51, with NO clear definition of the term).

I was also a little wary of some of her ideas:

Rapport "is a two-way street"? Tell that to any con man!

"The quality of your communication lies in the effect it achieves." The "quality" of your communication?

"There is learning in everything that happens." Shouldn't that be "there is POTENTIAL for learning ..."?

I also found it a little strange that an "Introduction" to NLP should have such a tiny bibliography - just three books, in fact, two by Ms Knight (see above) and Genie Laborde's "Influencing with Integrity". Are those really the ONLY books a newcomer needs to know about?
I don't think so!

So, it's short, reasonably accurate and almost jargon free. Nevertheless, I wouldn't give this to a newcomer to NLP unless I knew I could get back to that person to talk over their thoughts on and questions about the book.
In other words, as it's low, low price indicates, this isn't really an "Introduction" - it's just a "taster". Which is why I only gave it three stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars True and concise explanation of NLP principles and process, 13 April 2000
By james@commercenti.com (Farnham, Surrey, England) - See all my reviews
This book distils all the key elements of NLP; the roots of its existence, the scope of its applicability, and the techniques for its use. Covering such a breadth of topic in this slim tome is no easy task, but Sue Knight delivers a crisp style in a highly concentrated form, managing to hit the fine line between comradeship and academia.

NLP is primarily a practical tool, and within these pages the author manages to shoe-horn both the outline of the process and tips on how it can be applied. This book sets out to introduce NLP, and to advise the reader as to the areas in which NLP may assist. As such there is insufficient room to expand into detailed instructions on using NLP tools, and the description of NLP whilst not quite terse, certainly requires reading every word.

As a introduction to NLP this short book leaves the investigator in no doubt as to the scope of NLP; as a taster of the main meal this volume truly whets the appetite.

5.0 out of 5 stars NLP in a nutshell - the best summary in print., 9 Jul 2000
By A Customer
I love this little book as my clients often ask me to explain NLP in a nutshell and I have never before had anything to give them that does just that. Sue Knight presents NLP in a simple and practical way here, but still manages to communicate the depth and breadth of the subject in all it's complex applications and philosophy. I can think of no better first read for anyone embarking on an NLP journey, or even just thinking about it. Indeed, I now give it to all those who ask me that dreaded question.......
