4.0 out of 5 stars An introduction to chartering and guide to charter areas., 10 Jun 2000
A well written book, covering all the basic things you need to know about chartering a yacht, such as types of charter, choosing a company, what to pack etc. A major feature of this book (and over half its volume) is a guide to the main charter areas of the world. For each area, Rod Heikell gives wind and sea conditions, who it is suitable for (experience level etc.), information on harbours and anchorages, and main charter bases. I also bought the Charter and Flotilla Handbook by Claire and Frank Wilson. That book gave more practical hints and boat handling techniques, but did not cover the different sailing areas as Rod Heikell's book does.
