5.0 out of 5 stars A good book on a hard subject, 16 Jul 2002
By A Customer
While there are many volumes about heaven and the rewards for Christians after they die there are far fewer about hell.

This is a clear book, aimed at Christians, to give a clear teaching on this subject.

It is readable and doesn't dwell on the gore and yukky bits but doesn't cut corners either. It compares different teachings on the afterlife and uses the bible to show where errors can be found in these views.

Subjects covered include :
biblical teaching
reincarnation
annihilationism
all forgiving God
purgatory

5.0 out of 5 stars The truth, 13 Dec 2005
By G. J. Donaldson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Hell is a very controversial subject and remains something of a taboo. As a result views on hell have become distorted and watered down over the years, even within Christianity. This is troubling as hell is a very real place and ignorance of it can ultimately have dire consequences. However, in this book Blanchard does not shy away from giving an honest description of what hell is, always backed up by scripture.

Blanchard tackles a great many beliefs of what happens after death and gives answers to tough questions like: "How could a loving God send us to hell?" and "Why do good people deserve to go to hell?" Of course Blanchard doesn't stop here, he explains the reality of heaven too and points the reader to the bible to show them how to get there.

You may say that this is out-dated fundamentalism but this book is consistantly and convincingly argued from the bible.

This is an enlightening and engaging book and is a must for people seeking the truth of life after death.

1.0 out of 5 stars Intellectually bankrupt, 1 Oct 2007
By Ian Johnstone (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
From the beginning this book is clearly struggling for credibility, which is neatly summed up in Blanchard's statement '..on completing studies into the treatment of people in Hell...' 'Studies' would appear to be a rather grand description given the amount of Hell residents that would have been interviewed! Blanchard rambles through his usual pseudo rigour but as usual all is based on insubstantial and highly questionable source material. The underlying flaw in the construction of the book is a complete absence of intellectual objectivity - the conclusion has been drawn and then all available material is twisted, stretched and squashed to fit this conclusion. This is a book written to frighten, with the aim of persuading people to the narrow Blanchard view of faith. However, if your interest is in how silly some of the fringe faiths can become, this is the book for you!
