Product Description

Product Description

It is relatively easy to find a wine that is consistently palatable on the shelves of UK wine merchants - after all the range of wines on offer in the high street today is the widest in the world. But discovering a wine with genuine character is another matter. That's where this guide can help. It is packed with independent, no-nonsense reliable advice, steering readers towards the best value and offering critical assessments of the notable producers. This edition includes: a round-the-world tour of wine-producing regions with incisive comments on their vintages, the best producers and the wines; a directory of wine merchants, including the top 100; an investigation into the true state of the UK wine market, with opinions from merchants, critics and producers from across the globe; and an exploration of Europe reborn - the "new" New World.

4.0 out of 5 stars First class guide for even the occasional wine drinker, 31 Dec 2004
By Budge Burgess (Kilmarnock, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
As wine gets more popular, there is emerging a growing need to monitor not just taste but value. How much is a decent bottle worth? How much should it cost? The "Which?" guide looks closely at the availability of wine in the UK, taking into account both the major and the minor suppliers and marketers of wine.

This is a book which will be appreciated by the connoisseur or by the casual drinker of wine. If you buy more than few bottles a year, this will be a sound investment, helping you assess quality and value and taking you on a tour of available wines.

It is a first class guide for the consumer, probably the best around. It's very well organised and easily accessible. It offers a vast range of informative comments and analyses - half an hour reading this and you could bore an entire pub for days! A first class guide which could very well justify a prominent place on your bookshelf.
