Over 50 great walks in the south-east of England, from the South Downs to the Chilterns, are meticulously described, each with easy-to-follow directions and a specially drawn map. Each (circular) route has its own special character - fine scenery, rivers, lakes or wildlife, for example - and features an attractive and welcoming pub. Many of the pubs are noteworthy in their own right - some for their history, or their location, or for the high quality of the food and drink served. Information for each walk includes: length and duration (between 4 and 8 miles); difficulty - walks are graded 1 to 5 according to how taxing they are (from easy to energetic); how to reach the starting point (by public transport or by car, and where to park); and details of the pub's address, opening hours and food provided.
