5.0 out of 5 stars Well presented, easy to follow., 1 Feb 2001

In my opinion, this is a very good buy for those who are looking to learn the flute, for both young and old, with or without additional instruction, although, I would recommend it, for technique purposes and additional support, especially for young learners. It takes you through the basics of finger positioning, how to support the flute and proper lip postioning, with good pictoral diagrams. Also included is a good basic explanation of music theory, which progresses with each unit, good excercises, basic scales and 'concert pieces', along with several duets to be played with a teacher or someone more advanced in playing the flute. More importantly, it does not progress too quickly. There are also very good hints and tips on each unit on both playing and reading music, and a basic finger chart is also included as a handy quick reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BUY!!!, 1 Jan 2007

I bought this book because of the great reviews. It seemed to be just what I was looking for ( and it was). BUT I also purchased the CD to accompany the book, which helps you to know that when you play the flute it actually is sounding as it should be! Together they make learning to play the flute very easy and very enjoyable. I don't worry that I'm not learning correctly because I have the book and CD to refer to. I can take it up in my own time, when I feel like it, without paying £25 per hour for a tutor. Very happy!!!!
