Product Description

Product Description

"Dressage Formula" was first published in 1980 and has been constantly in demand ever since. It has now been completely revised and extended for the third time and is presented in the same clear, easy-to-read format that has helped to make it one of the most consistently popular and widely quoted books on the subject of dressage in print today. Based on the principles of the classical school, the author covers both the aesthetic and practical aspects of riding and training in order to encourage everyone who rides, whether professional or amateur, to obtain maximum pleasure and education from their riding and their horses. A deep love for and knowledge of horses illuminates Erik Herbermann's text, which is generously illustrated with photographs of the author riding and training horses at all levels. As a teacher, Erik Herbermann has gained recognition and respect for his staunch dedication to the propagation of classical ideals. He has devoted most of his time to lecturing, teaching and presiding at clinics internationally, and has written numerous articles for a variety of publications in the United States, Holland and Canada. His most recent book, titled "A Horseman's Notes", was published in 2003.

About the Author

Erik Herbermann was born in Amsterdam, 1945. At an early age, he moved with his family to Johannesburg and ten years later moved to Canada. His initial equestrian training was with Patricia Salt FBHS, herself a pupil of Richard Watjen and Oberbereiter Lindenbauer at the Spanish Riding School. Subsequently, he studied under the celebrated Classical riding teacher Egon von Neindorff whose annual displays of classical equitation are renowned throughout the world. Von Neindorff wrote the foreword to the first edition of Dressage Formula.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best advice on the basics, 28 Jun 2000
By Duaa Anwar "Dressage rider/ Author" (Cairo, Egypt) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The amount of elaboration in this book about the true basics of classical riding makes it by far one of the best available dressage books on the market. The 'basics' does not make this book for amateurs, because even some advanced riders have not had the basics cleared. I was inspired by Herbermann's respect for the horse and his approach on making training more pleasurable for horses. His simple and clear instuction on the essence of classical riding makes it within reach of every rider.

The title of the book very much explains what it is about - the formula that will help you reach new heights with your horse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dressage Formula, 14 April 2009
This review is from: Dressage Formula (Hardcover)
This book is excellent. I recommend it to any rider of any ability. It is very refreshing to read Erik's philosophy and somebody that actually puts the horse first. A must for any rider who wants to learn to ride classically.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST READ!!!, 22 Oct 2008
This review is from: Dressage Formula (Hardcover)
Dressage Formula I used to own the second edition and thought that it was the ultimate, but then I lent it and lost it - for once this was GOOD!!! Because I bought the Fourth edition. I thought that it was exacting before, but this one fills in the non existant gaps!! Treat yourself and buy the "Notes". If you are serious about Equtation - you MUST own this. Good luck on the path.....
