Product Description

Synopsis

The extensive bibliography of the Falklands War has one glaring exception, the part played by the legendary Gurkhas. Regarded by many as the world's finest infantry soldiers, the fierce some reputation of these Nepalese troops for blood-thirsty aggression and stealth put real fear into the Argentine troops and civil population. The sailed with 5 Infantry Brigade on the QE2 and played a key role in the surrender of the occupiers. Written by one of their officers, this book conveys the professional, personal and emotional aspects of the Gurkhas' involvement. It provides a unique insight into a fighting force surrounded by mystique. This is both a serious and light-hearted account of the build-up, the battle and the aftermath of fighting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Briefly spoken: Read this book !, 15 Mar 2006

(REAL NAME)
This book is far apart from the other publications regarding this subject, where mostly stories are told about heroic and courageous British soldiers. The then young but nontheless high ranked officer frankly describes his thoughts, feelings and attitudes towards and about the Falklands' War and many other things which happened to him and his family shortly before, while and after this war. At first the statements are sometimes irritating and strange for a reader who knows other publication about this subject. But Seear not only tells his own story about his active participation, he also reveals merciless the absolutely avoidable mistakes of the British Task Force before and while going into this war. Furthermore he also brings light into the many rumours and falsely reported stories about the Gurkhas Regiment in the Falklands' War.
The only thing to complain about is the fact, like in many other Falklands' War publications, that the author only publicized a few photos of his private archives despite the fact that he described in his text that he had made dozens of photos.
