3.0 out of 5 stars Detailed but confused, 7 Jan 2001
By A Customer
An introduction to the Falklands Conflict this is not, but for those who have already studied the conflict, it is an useful additional text.

Van der Bijl goes into much more detail on the battles than, say, Hastings - going down, generally, to company level on each side - but not right down to platoon level and below like Adkin.

Unfortunately, the book is slightly chronologically confused (in layout, not fact), which makes it hard to read - and I found it neccesary to keep Hastings handy for cross reference. In addition, some of the maps do not completely agree with the text.

In summary, well worth an addition to a Falklands bookshelf one already has, but is not the book to start it. Hopefully Adkin is working on the other eight battles!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Falklands Land Campaign, 9 Feb 2009
By Charles Vasey (London, England) - See all my reviews

This is a very interesting description of the Falklands land campaign. It is often criticial of the plans and concepts, yet always within a professional compass. It deals equally with the Argentinians and the British and tries to look at what alternative plans could have been followed. At times I found myself confused by which unit was where, but the individual maps are very helpful, perhaps the convention of putting one side's unit title in italics might have helped?

4.0 out of 5 stars A valuable contribution to the Falkland's War stories, 3 Mar 2006
By Martin Mahle (near Augsburg, Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The author reveales many detailed informations not yet publicly known. He also frankly describes the acting of both sides which was not only brave and courageous but sometimes rather chaotic and badly organized, leading to the unnecessary loss of many lives.

This is quite an informative book whilst going into a lot of detail. It is however an uneasy book to read. Read more
