5.0 out of 5 stars Why can't we get what we want?, 15 Jan 2003
By A Customer
What are the goals of our society? Peace, the basics necessities of life for all, the end of poverty, more leisure time, less work, greater productivity, better health care, better education, better public services, less crime, better environment? We have been promised these without result by our so-called leaders for a long time now. Where are the results, the benefits of our advanced technological society? This book addresses these questions. It looks at the causes behind this failure, it asks questions we do not usually consider. It makes us consider a solution that is in fact obvious. Challenge your beliefs and assumptions about the world you live in and read this important book. Some background knowledge of history, political theory and philosophy would be useful to the reader. An authoratative discussion on Lukacs from one of his former students. A deep reading of both Hegel and Marx. Full of current facts about the economic reality of the world we all live in. I strongly recommend this book despite its demanding 900 pages.
