5.0 out of 5 stars commision on the century, 22 April 2003
As an art historian doing my dissertation on Brasilia I found this the definitive work. Underwood goes into passionate depth describing this fantastical city Niemeyer and Costa created in the economically barren central Brazil which is chillingly futuristic and equally inspirational. In a period when this style of architecture is enjoying a revival through publications such as wallpaper* Underwood's enthusiasm makes enjoyable reading. He also explains building techniques and the sociological aspects behind the project as well as focusing on Neimeyer's other projects. Whether a simply a fan of modernism or an academic this book conveys passion supplemented with stunning photography which will appeal to all.
