book tabulates, records, summarizes the grammatical rules of Hungarian. Pluses: can almost find a reason for any grammatical question, referring to why something is said a certain way in Hungarian, without having to refer to "...well because it's 'hagyom�nyos' (evolved that way)". Also, grammatical concepts are well categorized. Minuses: some tables take time to interpret.

Most language course-books these days are frightened of grammar, with the result that many learners are starved of "what goes on under the bonnet". This excellent book lays everything out logically, so that one can see the relationships form, and words aren't just words, but have their place in the grammatical firmament. Absolutely invaluable if one intends to use a different part of a verb, or a different possessive form, from that served up by Teacher. The book isn't quite pocket-sized (unless you're a kangaroo), but it's small enough to be good fodder for those dull commuter journeys by train, bus or Tube.

This book has clear explanations for word formation, which is the tricky aspect of the Hungarian language. I would give it 4 or 5 stars but there are no exercises to do.

So, useful for understanding what you see and hear elsewhere, but you won't be able to learn grammar without getting your hands on some exercises.
